Specialized currency exchange offices (Casas de Câmbio) are generally the most convenient option for foreign visitors. The following exchange offices are located close to the main hotel area and are considered reliable:
- Day Câmbio – Natal Shopping
- Day Câmbio – Praia Shopping
- Boa Viagem Câmbio – Shopping Cidade Jardim
- Brazil Exchange Câmbio
A currency exchange counter is also available at Natal International Airport, although exchange rates there are often less favorable than those offered in the city.
If bringing US Dollars or Euros, we recommend carrying only banknotes that are clean and in excellent condition. Some exchange offices either do not accept older US Dollar banknotes or exchange them at less favorable rates. In addition, €200 and €500 banknotes are generally not accepted. Participants traveling from Europe may find it more convenient to bring Euros.
Required Identification
A valid identification document is required to exchange foreign currency in Brazil:
- Foreign visitors: valid passport.
- Citizens of Mercosur countries: valid national identity document (DNI or equivalent), where applicable.
